Join this Midwest Big Data Innovation Hub Data Science Student Groups (DSSG) webinar as we talk to Samridhi Verma, the President and Ambassador of the newly created University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) chapter of Women in Data Science (WiDS). She will be joined by WiDS members Aarushi Sharma and Claudia Robles and they will be outlining their plans to provide professional development, build a community through partnerships like the Illinois Data Science Club, and empower women through representation in data science education, innovation, and leadership. They will also share challenges faced during the chapter’s inception and offer suggestions for starting similar groups on other campuses.

Samridhi Verma is a junior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) School of Information Sciences, pursuing a major in Information Sciences with a focus on Data Science, who is fascinated by the power of data in unfolding patterns that can accelerate growth. Additionally, she is confident that her skills and experience allow her to solve real-world issues, foster innovation, and uplift those around her while contributing to the community. At UIUC, she has taken courses that have provided a solid foundation in many aspects of Data Science, such as data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning. This academic journey has equipped her to not just interpret data but to translate it into actionable insights that can drive innovation and transform businesses and products. Moving forward, Samridhi wishes to leverage these skills in data science to make an indelible impact and solve real-world problems and envisions a career where she can foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Through the power of data, she is excited to be at the forefront of creating cutting-edge solutions that meet evolving market demands and contribute to the greater good.
Aarushi Sharma is a University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Computer Science student interested in statistics and data science, both of which she is minoring in. She has experience with project and product management, User Interface/User Experience (UI/UX) design, and industry software development. She is passionate about making technology more data and people driven!
Claudia Robles is currently a senior studying Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), with a strong interest in User Experience/User Interface (UX/UI) Research and Data Science. During her Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) internship at Carnegie Mellon University, she gained valuable insights into design research and hands-on research experience. As the Co-Director of Membership and Professional Outreach for Design for America at UIUC, she has successfully organized numerous networking events that fostered professional development among their members. She is excited to apply her knowledge and skills in a future role as a UX/UI Researcher or Data Scientist.
