The success of the Midwest Big Data Innovation Hub relies heavily on collaborations with partners in our region, and participation by members of our stakeholder community. Opportunities to participate include (but are not limited to):
- • Midwest Carpentries Community (MCC) – The MCC helps to build capacity in the region for hands-on data science skill development. This is one of the projects in our Community Development and Engagement (CDE) portfolio.
- • BD Hubs Data Science Education and Workforce Working Group – an open quarterly (previously monthly) professional working group for data science educators and program leaders to talk and hear from other programs around the country, as well as learn about resources for connecting with data, tools, industry partners, and research. - • IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) Industry Connections (IC) program Enabling a Smart and Equitable Agriculture Ecosystem working group – a collaboration co-led by the Illinois AgTech Accelerator and MBDH. The goals of this working group are to understand the current state of ag data interoperability and recommend best practices and guidelines for increasing collaboration around ag data collection, security, and management; and propose standards and certificates for data providers and consumers to accelerate innovation.
Prior Working Group activities:
- • BD Hubs Data Sharing and Cyberinfrastructure Working Group – a collaboration across all four of the Big Data Innovation Hubs. Each quarter (previously monthly), the working group brought together data scientists and cyberinfrastructure professionals to learn about topics of common interest.
- • The outcomes of our Trustworthy Data Working Group, a partnership with the NSF Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, were focused on exploring community needs and expectations around research data integrity.
- • The MBDH developed a community statement focused on big data and cybersecurity in response to the NSF Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) on proposed tracks for the Convergence Accelerator program.
- • The MBDH partnered with the International Food Security at Illinois (IFSI) group at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to hold the Machine Learning: Farm-to-Table Workshop in 2017. Find the MBDH community white paper on Agricultural Big Data here.
